I had this almost Starcraft-like idea in my head, so I designed this concept. It's not simplified or on scale by any stretch of the imagination. This is a handheld laser, about 190mm long, that I designed for a company, although they liked it, it couldn't be produced, and they didn't like the simplified version ([link]). Odd.

Except for the hair modifier, Blender's particle and landscape "Toys" are a bit disappointing. I used to use Max, but due to it being an illegal copy, I had to move to Blender. It's modeling interface is miles beyond Max's. And a lot of other small things that makes a huge difference. I'm still to see what the new Blender does.

I'll check out your work when I'm on an ADSL Line again. Wireless is too slow (and expensive)

That's something I've never heard about. Blender has a built in game engine, from what I gathered on the forums, that's what made it so popular. Interesting. Something new I'll have to check out. :)

Luckily I can code C#, so I can make my own games anyway. :)
I always found Max's rendering a little lacking, not sure why. (Blender's internal render isn't great either)

Have you made any games?

I played with blender for two years in school. I just never got the feel for it. So I dont doubt its abiltys. I know a few guys that are big Max nuts that have told me that you can even craft the Blender to work and look like Max. I just had a hard core professor in collage who for 5 years only let us use max threw collage. We got to play with Blender, Z brush, Myha, 3d goute, and a few other small ones but when we turnd in our work, had to have the true max file. Had one guy in class who loved to make his basic shapes in Z brush and then bring them over to max cuzz he whas a big Z brush nut. He made some kick ass stuff but Mr. Taggs would not take his work.

Sounds like the prof had some issues. One of the admins on 3D Buzz made a powerful statement: "You're an artist, what you use to create your art are just tools". That settled a lot of debates. :)
That's a tough deal to be penalized for using ZBrush. Sculpt modeling is the next best thing to sliced bread.
I never got the point of Maya.. 3D Max is the more powerful one, and can easily be adapted to handle Nurbs better than Maya.

Do you know of any 3D Communities that's heavily into Special Effects? The only people I find are either modelers or animators... nothing near what I'm looking for.
