Hi guys and gals,

It's a new year and pretty much everything I tried last year failed. Some quite spectacularly.
So, here I am, once again staring into the unknown future and I have no idea which way the wind blows. Where do I go? What do I do?

What gives me some hope is that at the start of last year, I only had one client. This year I have 5, with a possible 6th in a little while.
Will that be enough for me to cover my basic needs? I can only hope.
What I've found with my vast range of skills, is that I really enjoy freelancing. I like the variety of projects that I receive, I love that I actually have to build relationships with my clients, not just do the job. Everything seems so real, and no two days are the same.

But it's a hard living, especially in our country where people have a very weird sense of what to pay for labour.

I should make a note to update these more frequently.

Well, with Meelo in the bag, I now have something to print so that I can make a little extra cash. As for the next 3D venture... I'm just planning on messing about with Blender for a bit. At the moment I'm making the Professor's phone on Futurama. Finished the model last night.. now just to light and texture.

Another update... Meelo was the first scene to really be rendered by my new hardware. It was impressive. With all the hair, lights and even the colossal 7k resolution, the machine made it look like it's hardly trouble to render it. Breathtaking.

Yesterday I went for my second interview at a company that does what I do in my spare time. So it will be amazing if I can work there. Please hold thumbs! :happybounce:

And last, but not least... I HAVE A STUDIO! A huge place where I can just do whatever. From projects and ideas, to art and just gaming. I'm still setting it up,  but I'll have it up and running soon.

Just a big shout out to all my dA friends! I know that I'm vague and distant these days and for the last few months. But I really appreciate you guys! Soon I'll be all set up with internet and everything and I'll catch up on all the stuff you guys posted that I missed. Promise.

Hi all,

It's been ages since I wrote anything. :) Plz forgive me.

What's happening? Hmmmm... did some freelance renders that might earn me a pretty penny next year. And I'm trying to make a LEGO Starcraft series of renders. (It's harder than it ought to be)

On that note, I've entered the Starcraft Tournament here in SA for 2012... only 2 months away. I best get practicing. Give a shout out if you're also playing SCII. :D

The Man vs Spider render was a huge success...
But I won't be doing any animations this month. Way too busy. :) Hopefully, next year this time, I'll be free to be a full time artist.

Cheers,
Gota finish the game I'm coding...

Oh, P.S.

My Birthday

1 min read
The day isn't over yet, but I thought I'd take a moment to update this journal. :boogie:

Surprisingly the highlight of my day wasn't the amazing weather that I woke up to, but that one of my renders finally got to the person I made it for. :) It took nearly 3 Months to make and render the 3D scene and to get it to Tasmania. But this morning on facebook, I got tagged in the photo where she's holding it! :D

There's a link to it on my artist page (www.facebook.com/pages/Johan-R…). I'm not sure if it will be available as a print, because it was made for her, I think it's best if it's her choice.

Other than that, I'm still saving for my new PC and working on redoing the Reboot characters.

Happy 25th Birthday to me! :D

With Hack and Slash in the bag, I'm retiring from 3D Work for a bit. (Probably just a few weeks).
It became a mechanical science... not art. Although my renders are good, they lack the something that pushes craftsmanship into art.

There's still plenty to do that I can catch up on. And I still have a long road ahead with my Programming projects. But even they will have to step a little step backwards for now.
I need to find the art in what I do. Without that, what's the point? ;)
